What This Privacy Policy Covers
This policy covers how FamilySafe, Inc. (“FamilySafe” or “we”) treats personal and other information that FamilySafe collects and receives, including information related to your use of FamilySafe products and services. “Personal information” is information about you and your child that can be readily used to identify you or your child, including name, address, email address, phone number, credit card number, or any combination of these elements.
This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that FamilySafe does not own or control or to people that FamilySafe does not employ or manage.
You understand that the Software licensed to you under the End User License Agreement (“Software'' is designed and intended for use as parental monitoring software, as a means for parents and guardians (“parents”) of minor children to monitor certain aspects of their child's Internet usage, and to protect their child from potential harm, inappropriate conduct or other inappropriate activity. Its use for any other purpose, including to monitor the activity of a person other than a minor child with whom you have a custodial relationship, is expressly prohibited under this license, and may violate state and federal laws.
Information Collection and Use
General
- When you register, we may ask for information such as your name, email address, ZIP code, When you, as a parent, register with FamilySafe and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.
- FamilySafe automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your child's browser and chat clients, including IP address, FamilySafe cookie information, and the page requested.
- FamilySafe may use information for the following general purposes: to customize advertising and content we may deliver to you, fulfill your requests for products and services, improve our services, and contact you regarding the Software, our service or related services and offers.
. Children's Information
- In order to provide the Software's parental monitoring tools, we collect and store data relating to your minor child's Internet usage, as indicated in the Control Panel. This data, which is stored on servers under our control located in the United States, may include public and private online activity, such as instant messages, web searches, web pages, blogs and forums visited. We do not share this information with third parties, except that we may share this information with contractors under our control and subject to confidentiality agreements, for purposes related to making the software available and operative (e.g., to ensure security standards are met). We purge this information periodically. Subject to the terms of this privacy policy, you consent on behalf of yourself and your child to our collecting and storing this data, for purposes of making available and operating the Software.
- FamilySafe does not contact children of any age about special offers or for marketing purposes.
- FamilySafe does not ask a child of any age for additional personal information.
- FamilySafe does not disclose private communications except to co mply wit h valid legal process such as a search warrant, or to protect the company's rights and property. As a parent using our monitoring tools, it is up to you to read data logged by FamilySafe applications to monitor your child's online behavior and interaction with others on the Internet, and determine if your child's safety is at risk.
- FamilySafe will never provide personal information about your child to any party.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
- FamilySafe does not rent, sell, or share personal or other information about you with other people or non-affiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:
- We may provide such information to trusted partners who work on behalf of or with FamilySafe under confidentiality agreements. These companies may use your personal information to help FamilySafe communicate with you about offers from FamilySafe and our marketing partners. However, these companies do not have any independent right to share this information.
- We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.
- We may believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of FamilySafe's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
- We may transfer your information if FamilySafe is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, FamilySafe will notify you through the email address you have provided to us before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Cookies
- FamilySafe may set and access FamilySafe cookies on your computer.
- FamilySafe lets other companies that show advertisements on some of our pages set and access their cookies on your computer. Other companies' use of their cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one. Advertisers or other companies do not have access to FamilySafe's cookies.
Your Ability to Edit and Delete Your Account Information and Preferences
General
- You can edit your FamilySafe account at any time.
- New categories of marketing communications might be added to the Settings option in the Software's Control Panel from time to time. Users who visit the Control Panel can opt out of receiving future marketing communications from these new categories or they can unsubscribe by following instructions contained in the messages they receive.
- We reserve the right to send you communications relating to FamilySafe, the Software, and/or closely related products and services, such as service announcements, administrative messages and the FamilySafe Newsletter, that are considered part of your FamilySafe account, without offering you the opportunity to opt out of receiving them.
- You can delete your FamilySafe account by visiting your Account page; however, information may remain in our archived records after your account has been deleted.
Children
- Parents can review, edit, and delete certain information relating to their child's FamilySafe account using tools offered in the product's Control Panel. Please refer to the Software's Control Panel regarding these specific tools.
- If a parent enrolled in FamilySafe chooses to terminate their service, and thus not allow us to further collect or use a child's information, that parent may delete their child's account by signing into that child's account and then using the Control Panel to do so. However, if you do so, certain information, including your personal information and usage information, may remain in our archived records after your account has been deleted.
Confidentiality and Security
- We limit access to personal information about you to our employees and/or contractors who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide to you the products or services you have licensed or requested from us. We strive to protect your personal information through physical, electronic and procedural safeguards.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
- FamilySafe may update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your FamilySafe account or by placing a prominent notice on our web site.
